Secret Garden

If you happen to be one of my closest friends, you would probably know that I've been recently crazy about Korean Dramas or Kdramas. I've watched over few of the series online and come to love some of them.

Recently I watched the kdrama entitled Secret Garden. This was aired in Korea last Nov. 13, 2010 till Jan. 22, 2011 via SBS. Lead actor was Hyun Bin coupled with Ha Ji Won (from the famous kdrama Memories of Bali which was with Ju In Song). At first, I was not so interested in watching the drama because I thought that it was not that interesting after seeing the lead female actress doing the 'Angelina Jolie' kind-of-thing in its first part and eventually I temporarily switched on watching to different drama instead.

Lately, after the drama 'My Princess' ended, I was trying to find another one to watch on when I remembered SG and decided to rewatch the drama. I've come across a few good reviews and recaps of SG anyway so I eventually give in and watch it. After watching episode one, the first thing that comes to my mind was how idiot am I to misjudge the drama after watching a single part of the series.

The drama revolves around the love story of Kim Joo Won, a fierce CEO of a famous department store, and Gil Ra Im, a fearless stuntwoman. Their initial meeting took place when Joo Won mistook Ra Im as the lead actress that his cousin is asking him to take into a hotel. After that unfortunate incident that lead to Ra Im's confinement to a clinic, Joo Won began to follow Ra Im around, annoying every part of her being. Their love story never get to prosper not until their soul was switched after drinking a magical wine from the magical inn that they found in the forest when Ra Im accidentally got lost while going on the wrong direction during their biking and Joo Won went to search for her. Funny and exciting incidents happened after they got switch back and forth when rain comes. The incidents leads to reveal Joo Won's secret and how it is connected to Ra Im's unfortunate life.

I like how the writer stick to the original plot from the start to finish. He was able to mix comedy, action, romance, mystery, and fantasy so well. I love how the writer was able to keep me from smilling in every cheesy moments the couple shares, laugh every funny moments of the two, and cry during their emotional struggles. Who would ever imagine that you can find a lot of cheesy moments between a tough stuntwoman and fierce company CEO like Gil Ra Im (Ji Won) and Kim Joo Won (Hyun Bin).

If there's one thing that I admire about the story is how deep and how strong the characters love is. Despite being totally different from one another, they got to meet at one point and that is in keeping the love they have and treasure it against all odds.
